About This Product

Legend has it that British monk, St. Boniface, first introduced “Christmas Trees” to Germany in the 7th century. In the 1550’s, Augustinian reformer, Martin Luther, is said to have been the first to “decorate” a Christmas Tree by adorning it with lighted candles. In America, Christmas Trees were seen as early as 1747, and, by the 1920’s, the decorated Christmas Tree custom was nearly universal throughout the country. Today, millions of people from many nations participate in this centuries-old tradition!

Douglas-Fir is one of the world's most impressive trees. One noted naturalist called it "the highest expression of tree greatness in our time." Indeed, the Douglas-Fir species forms some of the tallest and most magnificent forests in the world, dominating millions of square miles of wild forest in the West. Widely cultivated abroad, Douglas-Fir, with its sweet fragrance and wonderful symmetry, is cherished in America as a prime Christmas Tree species.

About Jonsteen's Seedlings

All of our trees are seed-grown at our nursery on California's Redwood Coast, which is inspected monthly and licensed by the California Department of Agriculture. Trees can provide a natural barrier against high winds, temperatures, noise pollution and soil erosion, all while benefiting local air quality, wildlife and property values — a Jonsteen seedling will only grow in value and beauty!

About Jonsteen's 100% Guarantee

Seedling Size Chart: Small

Due to the dynamic nature of actively growing trees, as well as the tremendous variation between species’ growth rates, we rely on the cubic volume of a seedling’s root mass to determine its “size” (Small / Medium / Large / XL). Within each size there is minor variance — the dimensions provided here represent the category minimum. If exact measurements are essential, please contact us about current stock.

Love my little tree

I am a traveling healthcare worker - which can feel lonely during the holidays. A friend sent me this Douglas Fir as a Christmas gift so that I would have a Christmas tree for Christmas at least.
Unfortunately it started in a cold and icy December in Seattle. On January 1, we moved to LA - while they were getting pummeled with more rain than the city has seen in a decade probably. My poor tree didn't stand a chance with all that moisture. The folks at Jonsteen were amazing. They responded so quickly to my inquiries on how I could potentially save my tree. And then when it eventually succumbed to all the rain, they sent me a replacement tree which is doing spectacularly well. I love my little tree. I smile every time I look at it. Thank you so much!

What a wonderful testament to the joy and companionship that trees provide! Thank you, Caren!
