About This Product

Legend has it that British monk, St. Boniface, first introduced “Christmas Trees” to Germany in the 7th century. In the 1550’s, Augustinian reformer, Martin Luther, is said to have been the first to “decorate” a Christmas Tree by adorning it with lighted candles. In America, Christmas Trees were seen as early as 1747, and, by the 1920’s, the decorated Christmas Tree custom was nearly universal throughout the country. Today, millions of people from many nations participate in this centuries-old tradition!

Serbian Spruce is endemic to a tiny area of the former Yugoslavia, where just 1,000 individual trees are all that remain of the species' native stand. This tree, initially thought of as a rare novelty, first came to America in the late 1800's. By the turn of the century, this distinctively downswept, often very narrow, and always graceful tree was in wide use, considered among the very finest of ornamental evergreens — a vaunted status it retains to this day. In a few short years, this seedling will grow into a perfect living Christmas Tree!

About Jonsteen's Seedlings

All of our trees are seed-grown at our nursery on California's Redwood Coast, which is inspected monthly and licensed by the California Department of Agriculture. Trees can provide a natural barrier against high winds, temperatures, noise pollution and soil erosion, all while benefiting local air quality, wildlife and property values — a Jonsteen seedling will only grow in value and beauty!

Seedling Size Chart: Small

Due to the dynamic nature of actively growing trees, as well as the tremendous variation between species’ growth rates, we rely on the cubic volume of a seedling’s root mass to determine its “size” (Small / Medium / Large / XL). Within each size there is minor variance — the dimensions provided here represent the category minimum. If exact measurements are essential, please contact us about current stock.
